Flames of Destruction is the next new main Booster release. We will host the Sneak Peek on April 28 and 29, 2018 starting at 10:30 AM. It is a great way for getting your cards before everyone else, and celebrating with us in a “party” and tournament setting. The main release date for OTS shops like us is Thursday, May 3, 2018 while other shops will have it Friday, May 4, 2018. It will have 100 cards: 8 Secret Rare cards, 10 Ultras, 14 Supers, 20 rares, and 48 commons.
The set will likely have about 10 cards taken from the OCG Star Pack Vrains, which already featured 9 cards in the Extreme Force Booster. These and other cards will be the Link Monsters that boast of Flexible Link Materials (FLM) and 2 new abilities, one for Link Summoning, and one that is always active, and allowing you to draw up to 6 cards at the beginning of your turn, which is amazing. The co-linking ability will likely increase the utility of Firewall Dragon and Tri-gate Wizard. It would probably be a good idea to pick up these cards if you haven’t already before prices go up.
The first main topic of the set is that it will have hand traps that will likely be able to be used as counter hand traps, as well. We already know about Called by the Grave, which is just an amazing card, and will likely be a common in the set, but rumor has it, that it may be higher rarity. You can read about it in our Extreme Force Special Edition Blog post.
The second topic of interest is the return of the Elemental Lords, or at least one new one, that can be summoned with Light Monsters on the field that will make use of cards from the Wave of Light Structure deck and Raigeki as its main board wipe to your opponent’s field.
The third main topic is Vampires. The first Vampire Link Monster is released in this set, and will likely be a great asset for the upcoming Vampires in the Dark Saviors set. It will be interesting to see if it revitalizes any cards from Shadow Specters.
Other cards that make the cut are: Another trap hole, but this one banishes monsters that are in face down position. Or, a dragon that can erase all cards in a single column and leave that column unusable. Possibly, a Trickstar immune to card effects that gives severe damage every turn. These will be interesting to see how to use in meta decks.
All in all, Flames of Destruction appears to be an Amazing set, and certainly the best set in Yu-gi-oh! for a long time. With new abilities and archetypes, it may make more than one meta deck which we have not seen in a long time. It would be awesome to see 3 decks do top 8 in a YCS or big regional, and would certainly make the game more interesting, and more importantly, much more fun!
